Nuts

What’s the appeal of nuts? I received some in my graze box yesterday – brazils, pecans and almonds. I have nothing personal against nuts: I don’t dislike them as individuals, I don’t make sweeping generalisations about their culture, but I don’t understand their appeal.

I’m willing to try pretty much everything except for botox or Jamie Cullum, so in I dived. Brazil nuts – what’s the appeal? These are essentially just a lump of something  a little like a soft wood, that dessicates in ones mouth upon chewing. Only it doesn’t just dessicate, it employs a cream cracker-styled absorption of local moisture, leaving the mouth dry, parched, gasping. Likewise with the pecan – lovely when cooked in a chocolate-themed pie, but dry and evil here. And the almond: the less said about the almond, the better.

Ah well, I had dried blackcurrants too: dried fruit covers a multitude of sins.
