Last week was the first week of summer, and if the last couple of years are anything to go by, probably the last. And although I was a bit suspicious at first (as usual), I took the first tentative steps into the garden.

Again as per usual, it takes something to do with food to get me motivated for anything, and this time around was no exception. My favourite parts of gardening are herbs, and we planted chocolate mint, a big rosemary, thyme, sage and parsley up. Nice. I also stuck in some early salad leaves (including the best one, purslane), and generally tidied up the place. The companion dug in some non-edible sweet peas and planted up the rest of the pots and planters, and now the place looks pretty presentable. It’s amazing what difference a few flowers and a sweep-up makes.

I’m a crotchety old goon sometimes, and I forget how things are fun – especially gardening, especially after a long winter. Note to self: I enjoy gardening.
